www.maclaren.com Review (blog assignment #1)

This is the review of Maclaren Mccans official website.

At first glance I was impressed at how simple yet modern the site actually looked. The main page had a red backdrop with four aligned boxes that were laid out across the page. Each one appeared to be a link. In order to left to right the first one was called "Recent Work", the next was "All-Time Work", the third was "In the trenches" and the final one appeared to be something for more information with links such as, About us, Contacts, Careers and things you would find on most agency sites.

Lets start by clicking on Recent Work. Drag the mouse over it and OH COOL, it almost acts like some kind of I-pod app. With out even clicking you can cycle through different categories by just hovering the mouse over it. Very modern approach at a layout I must say. After you find the work you would like to view you simply just click on it and it expands it across the screen so it doesn't just limit it self to the little box. The majority of the links were supported with streaming video and print ads. The second category All-Time Work had the same function but instead of showing off brand new stuff it featured Maclarens work from the past.

Now on to the next category In the Trenches. I wonder what this could be all about? Hover the mouse over it and no app style? I wonder why they didn't keep this consistent? So I click on it and

Lets try this again ... www.maclaren.com ... In the Trenches *click*

WTF .... lets try this again!

again!

again again again!

One more time!!!!!!!

Okay Maclaren I wanted to give you a good review but I just can't now! Get your flash life together. At first I thought it may have been my computer but I tested on another computer and the same thing happened. On top of that I was writing you a great review on here and the first time it happened it shut down all the windows on my browser and I lost it. I guess In the Trenches means that they end up throwing you in one as they boot you off the internet.

It could just mean that the website is not compatible with Safari, but I think if you are going to have a whole site looking and feeling like an apple app there is no excuse to not be compatible with the most common apple browser.

I am done trying work the site. I give www.maclaren.com a 4.5 out of 10 for effort.

Intro

Allow me to introduce myself. I am a shaggy haired fellow who has way too many creative outlets. I enjoy all sorts of writing, filming/editing videos, graphic design, playing/recording music and eating large quantities of chicken wings. While all this is going on I am also a full time student in the advertising program. I should have graduated by now but my tendency to always do too much at once has held me back in my school life. I came back because I know my creative lifestyle could be handy in the industry. I also have no regrets about failing out and coming back. I have learned so much just going at my own pace and have met so many wonderful friends who I can't even imagine not being in my life. I often feel like the faculty doesn't take me seriously because of my track record but they really have no idea what I do behind the walls of the school.

People say everything happens for a reason and whether life really works like that or not, it sure feels like that this week. It seem like all this random creative stuff I do is really coming together. Yesterday I had an interview for an internship at a recording studio/ record label for the position of a graphic designer. After showing the guy my portfolio which consists of everything from graphics, writing and video he decided to hire me. What is really awesome though is that he didn't just hire me as a graphic designer, he told me that he is giving me the creative freedom to do whatever (as long as I continue to promote the artists on the label). I am hoping to put together some awesome video promos and ideas are already flowing in my head even though I haven't even started yet.

Also tonight is the year end awards for my favorite podcast, The Metal Injection Livecast from Brooklyn New York. It is on a metal (my favorite genre) music website but the show itself is more comedy than anything. I am also nominated in 2 categories. Super fan of the Year and Funniest Phone call of the Year. After my call last spring they played the audio for one of my comedy videos and continued to play it throughout the year on different episodes.

Another thing tomorrow afternoon my good friend Shawn and myself are walking into the Comedy Network to try to pitch a show we secretly have been writing. But I am going to save that story for another day.

I actually didn't intend on writing so much today, but the final thing I would like to say is that this blog isn't alway going to be about me me me me ME ME ME ME ... stuff like that. I am going to dedicate a lot of posts to things going on in the creative world and inspirational minds.

Thats all for now internet!

Dont eat yellow snow,
